The embracing of God’s plan
for us is at the centre of this rebirth. It is a re-imagining of the world as
forecasted by the real source of all things. Embracing the truth is hard for
anyone. It will set you free but it does not look or feel or taste that way
till you jump into it. From the outside it may even look ugly. Remember that we
have been programmed since birth to be a certain way. The influence of the “prince
of this world” is strong and pervasive. It is subtle simply because it is the
only way we know how to live. The easy enticements of pleasure are not the
point. Not seeing anything beyond pleasure is the real point of that game. The surly
lure of ambition is not the thing. Not seeing a future beyond achievement and
vain glory is the wool pulled over our collective and individual eyes.
The thing about this Kingdom
is that it is going from general to specific. The word is given as an offer to
all but every single person has to embrace it. The wreck of the human soul
wrought by sin is so strong that no collective salvation will do. Now, I am not
trying to make the dark sound stronger than it is. I mean it is only strong
until a light is turned on. I am saying we need to be careful not to take for
granted the great salvation offered by the light.
It is not easy to embrace
the eternal. If you read the literature you may be convinced to jump on board
the forever train. However, the train ride only takes you to the head of your particular
narrow path. There you disembark and start to trudge over mountains and
valleys, oceans and deserts. It is not that salvation is not once and for all. It
is that it is the spark you need and the fire is on. It still has to consume
you. It wants to burn away the old self so that a real self can emerge. It has
been said: “there are no real selves outside God.”
Well, in God, there is space
for all of us in all our individual wonder and glory.
