In the daily trudge of existence, it is so easy for all our focus to shift towards the most basic of motives: survival. We are semi aware – somewhere in the back of our minds – that is important for us to think about more, do more, be more. But there is no time or strength left for such luxuries. Instead, the sole focus is making it from one day to the next.
But to what end? What are we living for if all we are doing is simply living? Being alive is all well and good but that’s the easy part that is mostly – if not completely – out of your control. Plants are alive. Critters are live. Alive is just air in and air out, blood pumping through veins. We aren’t even aware of it most times. But what else are you living for?
The easiest thing to live for is God and the easiest way to do that is by doing His will. As the body of Christ, our mandate simplified is to be more like God. What does that mean for daily living? Well the example of Christ is the best place to start really. In His time on earth, He lived the will of the Father. He drew people closer to Him without judgements or expectations. He loved everyone like they were flesh of His flesh and blood of His blood. He took care of the people that society always forgets: children, the sick and disabled, the poor and hungry, the widowed, the sinners, the shunned, the mocked. This is what we must also reflect in our lives – loving our neighbours as ourselves.
Wherever you are, there are ‘neighbours’ in need of your help. You don’t have to look to hard or go to far. There is always someone slipping through the cracks, ignored by the rest of the world, suffering. Make it your Godly duty to be who they trust in their time of need. May God be your strength as you manifest His will in the world. Amen.
