H,
It does have a natural bent
to it after a while. It is discipline also in terms of practice that becomes
natural. The more time we spend in the light, the more like that fraction of
our soul do we become. We spend time in Him so we can become like Him.

There is no substitute for
this process. This is why it is so vital we stay in Him. This is why there is
no casual Christianity. The pull of the dark is stronger and the lure of sin is
easy. Yet, this light is eternal and it will outlast anything else. We do not
preach the gospel because it is popular or merely life affirming. We do so
because we believe it is the right thing for every human soul. We do so because
we believe in a life after death, after falling, after dreams have died and
countries have fallen and darkness seems to rule supreme. We believe that what
the world needs the most is the supremacy of love over the dangers of self and
sin.

There is no doubt that we
live in dangerous times. The human soul has been in danger since the fall. The trajectory
of man away from God can only end one way. The faith we profess is a permanent solution
to this moment of midnight.

We do not have all the kinks
in us worked out. We do not have all the solutions worked out. We are not yet
the people that we should be. We are in process. We have spied the light and it
is consuming us. This may seem slow but there is no hurry to eternity. It is a
narrow path but we walk. We are not afraid. We walk and learn and grow. We are
not alone.

I remember this fine scene
in that precious show of my childhood “Quantum Leap”, though this particular scene
may be from a novelization of the show I read, where the time traveller solves
one crisis in time and lands in some kind of bar between worlds. The bartender
looks familiar and the traveller is exhausted. He begins to work out what to do
next then he stops. He realises he is being pushed through time by a force he
cannot explain with mere science and that all he is doing must have a purpose. He
is no longer in a hurry to go anywhere or solve any purpose. He has reached a
mountaintop of his faith and he knows he will leap into time when the guide of
his soul is ready. He settles into the bar stool and orders a pint. At rest.
