Mathew 18:1-10
H,
It all falls to this one
thing. We can accept it or not accept it as Gospel. If it is true then it
changes the colour of everything else. Life has a further texture to it. It is
not simply black and white but it is all the colours that, as the rock band
says, “Bleed into one”.
There is nothing in this current
state to recommend a lightness of being and the truth is the time passes and
all our innocence, our trust, our very bands of certainty are rocked by this
sea change. We are not as we have always been. Even our letters now carry the
salty edge of an unrelieved fight. We are in judgement over each other and so
we forget to love. We cannot judge and love. We must leave one and embrace the
other fully.
This is not easy to do. We live
in comparison and competition with one thing or the other. There is a certain
gladness in lording the things we do well over others that struggle. We do not
yet have a holistic outlook to the problem with sin and self.
The solution is to go back
to a childlike faith in God. This does not mean we are timid or clueless. It means
we rely not our own thoughts but we agree that there is a lot we do not know
and cannot apprehend. We take this is an opportunity for wonder and to take in
the revelation of His grace.
It means we go back to the
school of faith and we learn.
