He who reigns over all the earth and sees the truth of all our hearts, creator of all that our eyes can see, He has set the flow of time in eternity into seasons. And so a time comes to mourn and it is followed by a time to rejoice. And all the seasons must be given their due attention.

Think about what grief does to our hearts when we do not engage it properly, when we brush it aside in a misguided need to be strong before we are ready. It tears us up, eats at us from inside and then manifests itself in ugliness outside. We snap at people we love. We become destructive and self destructive. We are completely overtaken by the unresolved emotions of our losses. This is not His will for us.

When it is time to grieve, we must settle into it as comfortably as we do anything else and let it course through us as it should. But we must not live there, for a time comes after it where we must shake off the dust of our grief and rejoice.

We are only given a limited time in this world. In that time we will experience the extremes of love and loss, pain and joy, life and death, sickness and good health. It is the nature of this fallen state. But as we cycle through each season of our life, we would be better served by giving each season its due attention in our lives and in the world around us. We are put here to do His will and then we make our journeys home to Him. That too is a season.

When the season is difficult look to the author of time. Let Him guide you through your period of mourning so you may once more see the light. When the season is good look to the author of time. Thank Him for the respite you have received and let Him guide you towards helping His children with what He has given you.
