D,
You will not find anything you truly want in the form in which you think you want it. That sounds a bit unwieldy, but it is true. There is inside you a hunger that it is no one’s responsibility to fill. It will push you often and tell you that they do and should know how to answer your acute hunger for love. They do not know it. They cannot know it. They have their own. We do not need people as disposable conduits for our inner drive. Life has to exist as if, if you were the only one on the planet, it would still be valid and real. It has to present not as competition, but connection.
On that fictional and lonely planet, we find value in the connection with God and in this real and full but still lonely planet, we find meaning in our pursuit of connection with God and the God in people. We have these missing parts of ourselves, these blank spaces in our head and hearts that cannot be filled by anything we see or feel. It is just God spread abroad in the minds and hearts of our fellow human beings.
