E,

And it is all still a journey. We will not be good at it, in the main. This is a statement of fact and not a pre-loaded excuse for “failure”, whatever that means. We will not be who we think we are. We will be much less than our own standards. A failure to understand this leads to many a cover up and the great sentence on so many saints who became supposed saints: “We had no idea.” No one gave them the space to fail.

Love gives us all the space to fail. It is not the word “failure” I am railing against but the finality it gives. It is not interesting how we didn’t do something. It is interesting when we do. Our context for failure is small and narrow and full of competition and silliness. Our standard in eternal life is not impacted by the rough and tumble of temporary earth. In the non-space between heaven and the new earth to come, if you take in the fables that may be true as a guide, these hiccups will seem like baby steps in the fullness to come.
