Some events in life, both small and large, are timely reminders that we have no power of our own. We can proffer solutions to problems we face but we have no guarantee that they will fix things. Regardless of what we think we have done in the past or will be able to do now, we cannot by ourselves solve anything. Not by ourselves.

Centering yourself as the sole remedy to problems is a recipe for disaster. The nature of the world is such that we will always encounter things that far surpass us. There is more grace in humbly accepting this truth than there is in trying to be the one answer to all questions. Who do you think you are? What kind of pride do you presume equips you to mend every broken thing you come across?

What you can do is this: when he calls you answer; when he speaks you listen; where he leads you follow. That is all you can do. There is no power of your own making. There is no knowledge of your own design. There is just the Spirit in you.
